A 39-year-old Chicago man was critically wounded and faces criminal charges after encountering an armed homeowner on the city's northwest side.

Police say the 39-year-old suspect entered the home of a 26-year-old man "without permission" at about 12:45 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, 2023. Upon meeting the intruder, the 26-year-old resident shot him twice in the chest. The alleged home invader ran from the house and was discovered a short distance away. He was taken to a local hospital in serious condition. (WBBM News Radio; Chicago, Ill.; 9/4/23)

Upon returning to her Snohomish, Wash., home, Mrs. William Newburg discovered two burglars. She held one of the men with a .22-cal. pistol and fired three shots at the second man as he escaped. Sheriff's deputies later captured the second suspect. (The Everett Herald; Everett, Wash.)
