A 28-year-old suspected murderer with an extensive criminal history was shot by a Georgia homeowner who found the man in his basement early on the morning of Sept. 14, 2023.

Police received a call from the homeowner just before 2 a.m., and he told authorities that he thought there was possibly an intruder in the house. The man armed himself and went into the basement of the home, where he found the intruder, who was armed with a knife. According to police, the homeowner warned the armed trespasser, left the basement and retreated to the upper floor of the house to protect his family.

The intruder chased after him and told the resident, "You're going to have to kill me," as he made his way up to the second level. The homeowner fired two shots, wounding the suspect, and deputies arrived shortly thereafter. Despite his wounds, the intruder still struggled with police as they took him into custody.

Authorities transported the suspect to a local hospital, where he was treated for two gunshot wounds. Police say the man had served time for robbery and recently pleaded guilty to two aggravated assault charges. He is suspected of having murdered a 77-year-old woman in Columbus, Ohio, and is also a suspect in a deadly home invasion in Kettering, Ohio, where he had stolen a truck and drove to Georgia. Police believe he randomly targeted the home and had tried gaining entry into several other homes in the area before entering this one. (FOX 5 Atlanta; Fayette County, Ga.; 9/15/23)
