A father in Habersham County, Ga., came to the defense of his daughter when she was physically assaulted by her boyfriend on Oct. 5, 2021.

It started sometime before 10 p.m. that Tuesday evening, when the daughter's boyfriend began beating her outside of a residence. As stated by Habersham County Sheriff's Lt. Murray Kogod, "There was a violent altercation between the boyfriend and daughter," and the sounds of the altercation alerted her father to what was going on. Rushing outside, the 55-year-old father attempted to end the violent assault, but was unable to get the assailing 26-year-old boyfriend off of his daughter. With no other options left and his daughter being pummeled, the father retrieved a firearm and shot the boyfriend.

Police were called a short time afterward and arrived on the scene to find the father, bludgeoned daughter and boyfriend with a gunshot wound. The boyfriend was still alive and taken to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Ga. The officers noted that the daughter had several visible injuries, and after interviewing both the father and daughter, confirmed that the boyfriend had committed " several acts of violence against the victim." Authorities also determined that the father was justified in shooting the boyfriend to protect his daughter. (nowhabersham.com, Clarkesville, Ga., 10/06/2021)

Eleanor Ross was approaching her boyfriend's house when two men, one armed with a pistol, abducted her and forced their way into Jerry Hayes' Nashville, Tenn., home. The gunman began looking for the resident, intending to rob him, but Hayes had armed himself and fired several times at the intruder, his shots seriously wounding the gunman. The accomplice escaped. Hayes was not charged in the incident. (The Tennessean, Nashville, Tenn.)
