A homeowner and mother in Port Huron, Mich., defended her property, self and child when a burglar tried to force his way into the residence in the early morning hours of Feb. 28, 2021.

The incident occurred before 5 a.m. that Sunday morning when the woman was alerted by the sound of someone trying to force their way into her home. Fearing for the safety of herself and her small child, the woman armed herself with a gun and shot the intruder in the neck. The intruder then fled the property, walking down the street calling for help.

The woman called police a short time later to report the incident. Police had already received calls from other residences in the area to report the yelling wounded intruder. The intruder was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of his wound. The woman told investigators that she had no idea who the man was or why he tried to enter her home. The investigation is still ongoing. (detroitnews.com

From the Armed Citizen® Archives August 1981

An unidentified Rawlins, Wyo., woman was awakened about 4 a.m. by noises at the front door of her home. Thinking it might be her husband, she shouted out his name but got no response. When she approached the door armed with a shotgun, a man who had been trying to jimmy the door open with a screwdriver quickly fled. (The Daily Times, Rawlins, Wyo.)
