Soundly asleep in her bedroom, a 74-year-old woman awakened to the sounds of a burglar breaking her door open. Startled, the woman grabbed her recently purchased handgun and met the intruder at the top of the stairs, where she took aim and fired a single fatal shot. EMS arrived on scene to save the life of the homeowner, who had suffered a heart attack after the incident. (The Kansas City Star, Kansas City, Mo., 11/30/18).

A Cincinnati store owner fought back against an unauthorized withdrawal from her cash register one Thursday. A gunman entered the West Price Hill store, went behind the counter and demanded money, threatening to kill the proprietor multiple times while holding a gun to her face. While the assailant's firearm was loaded, it was later discovered that he had failed to chamber a round. The store owner, who holds a concealed-carry license, drew her .380 semi-automatic and hit the man three times, which proved fatal. (WLWT5Cincinnati, Ohio, 02/07/19)
