Armed Citizen® Today

An armed homeowner put an end to a Phoenix man's late-night crime spree in Phoenix, Ariz., giving Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies an opportunity to arrest the man.

Police first received notice of the 32-year-old suspect's spree after receiving a call regarding a stolen vehicle around 10:00 p.m. on April 16. The man forced his way into a vehicle, leading to a struggle between the assailant and the car's owner, who suffered minor injuries from the fight. The suspect took control of the car and drove off.

The car thief then made his way into a residential neighborhood, where he broke into a home. Inside the residence, the suspect was confronted by the homeowner and shot. Officers arrested the trespasser at the scene and took him to the hospital for treatment.

The man was later booked into the Maricopa County Jail on charges of robbery, theft of means of transportation, residential burglary and trespassing. (ABC 15, Phoenix, Ariz., 04/16/2020)

Recently released from the hospital following a heart attack, Herman McBroom, 81, was resting in his Port Orchard, Wash., home when a man broke in, entered the bedroom, and demanded money.

The intruder struck McBroom in the face several times, breaking the elderly man's glasses and cutting his forehead. While the robber rifled through the dresser drawers, McBroom retrieved a .25-cal. handgun.

When the assailant moved to attack once again, McBroom shot him in the neck, forcing him to flee. A suspect was arrested while seeking treatment at a nearby hospital. (The Bremerton Sun, Bremerton, Wash.)
