An armed robbery suspect got a surprise when the man he was robbing pulled out a gun instead of his wallet. The attempted theft occurred in Delray Beach, Fla., in early December. The man who was accosted pointed his gun at the suspect and told him to get on the ground. The suspect originally complied, but he later ran away—leaving behind his .38-cal. revolver—when the armed citizen was distracted. Police have made an arrest, and the man faces robbery and aggravated assault charges. (Sun Sentinel, Palm Beach, FL, 12/15/14)

Armed Citizen® Extra
Two men found themselves face to face with an armed resident when they broke into an Indiana apartment, Tuesday morning. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, at least one of the armed burglars fired his gun at the tenant, who returned fire, causing both intruders to flee the scene. Later on, a man fitting the description of one of the culprits sought treatment for a gunshot wound at a local hospital. The authorities are investigating, but have not yet confirmed whether this man is one of the suspects being sought in the home invasion. There was no mention of injury to the resident. From the Armed Citizen® Archives
September 1988: Two men, armed with an axe and a handgun, burst into a Jericho, N.Y., residence and disrupted a four-man gin rummy game. After extorting valuables from the cardplayers, one robber ordered his accomplice to tie the men up and threatened to burn down the house. At that point one player, Allan Fishman, a retired New York City police officer, drew his licensed handgun and opened fire, wounding one bandit and sending the other to flight. No charges were brought against Fishman. (Newsday, Long Island, NY)
