Armed Citizen® Today

An attempted burglary in Florida ended with the alleged burglar being shot and killed early on the morning of April 23, 2023.

Police responded to reports of a shooting in West Park, Fla., just after 7 a.m. that Sunday. When they arrived, they found a 49-year-old suspected burglar suffering from a single gunshot wound. The home invader was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his wounds.

The armed citizen who fired on the alleged burglar remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. (South Florida Sun Sentinel; West Park, Fla., 4/23/23)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives – July 1982

C.H. Meadows, 83, awoke to find an intruder choking his wife. When the Longview, Texas, householder tried to intervene, the criminal threatened him with a butcher knife. When the intruder began ransacking the house for loot, Meadows grabbed a .410 shotgun and opened fire, hitting the assailant in the shoulder and putting him to flight.
