One employee responded to screams of “active shooter” at his workplace by running out to his car, retrieving his gun, tracking down the shooter and holding him at gunpoint until the authorities arrived. The incident occurred at a Jacksonville, Fla., landscaping company, when a disgruntled employee shot and killed his supervisor. Someone who heard the shots called 911, but it was the armed citizen’s quick action that prevented the malcontent from escaping the scene. The suspect was later arrested and charged with one count of murder. (CBS47 and FOX30, Jacksonville, FL, 3/10/16)

A Trotwood, Ohio, woman was at home with her two teenage boys when three armed thugs broke into her house. The intruders hit her on the head with a gun and then attempted to drag her husband’s safe from the residence. The victim was able to get her hands on a gun, after which she fired on the three robbers, causing the trio to beat a hasty retreat from her home. Although she initially didn’t think she had struck any of the intruders, one of the three was later found dead in the yard. (Dayton Daily News, Dayton, OH, 12/29/15)

Two armed men barged into a Grosse Point, Mich., house and struggled with owner Jeffrey Cook downstairs. A third thug rushed upstairs and held a woman there at gunpoint. Hearing the uproar, another resident, Robert Wicks, rushed from his bedroom with a Ruger Blackhawk revolver chambered in .44 Mag. The woman’s attacker wheeled on Wicks, who shot him three times in the chest. The robber died and his accomplices fled. (The Grosse Point News, Grosse Point, MI)
