Police arrested a 32-year-old North Hills-area man for allegedly trying to rape a woman while she was sleeping. The woman awoke with the man on top of her making sexual advances. She resisted, screamed and pulled his hair before freeing herself and running to the closet for a shotgun. The woman pointed the gun at the intruder and told him to get out of the house. He began dressing frantically and fled, but not before she recognized him as the son of a neighbor. Later, the suspect was arrested, arraigned on numerous charges and committed to the county jail. A crime spree in Madison, Wis., was halted when two burglars finally picked the wrong house to break into. The duo had already robbed a 90-year-old woman at gunpoint Friday morning when they moved on to another home and were confronted by an armed homeowner in his garage. The one suspect fled, while the other got into a struggle with the resident, during which his handgun discharged. When the gun fired, the remaining thief dropped his firearm and allowed himself to be taken into custody. The two culprits have had numerous charges filed against them for the incident, and are also suspects in a number of other property crimes in the area. No injuries were reported. (Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, WI, 4/8/15)

Seventy-year-old Eric Christian stepped onto the porch of his Louisville, Ky. Home to check a bird feeder when he was attacked by an armed, masked man. His 72-year-old wife tried to lock the door, but the man caught her and dragged the elderly couple into the backyard. Alerted by the noise, two neighbors, one armed with a handgun, came to see what was happening. When confronted by one neighbor, the attacker ran to the front of the house where he met Jeff Tafel. The intruder shot at Tafel, who returned fire and killed the man. Tafel was not charged for the defensive use of his handgun. (The Courier-Journal, Louisville, KY)
