In Springfield, Mass., on July 5, a 35-year-old man who apparently became irate about an online interaction armed himself and traveled to the home of a couple, where he initiated a physical altercation with the husband and began chasing him while pointing a handgun at him. The wife, witnessing this attack, shot the assailant once, killing him.
After an investigation reviewing security footage and the online interactions, it was determined that the armed citizen acted in defense and no criminal charges would be filed. (wwlp.com, Chicopee, Mass., 7/14/26)

Fifteen minutes after losing his nerve in one armed robbery attempt, a man tried to rob Jose Rivera's Rochester, N.Y., grocery store. Distracted by police outside, who were searching the area after the first robbery attempt, the armed man turned his head. When he turned back to look at Rivera, the store owner was holding a licensed .38 Spl. revolver. Police arrested the man on two counts of armed robbery.
