Armed Citizen® Today

A rideshare driver in Orange County, Calif., defended a 60-year-old woman from a naked attacker on the evening of June 2, according to local reports.

According to an interview with NBC Los Angeles, the driver said he was dropping a passenger off when he saw the naked man running toward the woman, who was near the dumpster of a local condominium. "This female was defenseless," the driver told reporters. "He began to like, brutally beat her. He was kneeing her, slamming her head against the ground."

The driver took action, aiming his handgun at the woman's assailant and firing. The shot hit the naked man in the neck, stopping his attack. The driver immediately called 911. When officers arrived, they questioned him and then released him. The 20-year-old assault suspect was transported to the hospital, where he's in critical condition. The woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene. "He could have potentially killed that woman," the driver said. "I just reacted. I believe in fight or flight. I wasn't about to take flight and let her go through what she was going through."

A local neighbor who declined to identify himself told reporters that, "he was doing the right thing. Right place, right time to protect that woman." (NBC 4 Los Angeles; Stanton, Calif.; 6/3/24)
