New York state homeowner shot an armed intruder Nov. 5, 2019, around 9 p.m. According to Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies, the intruder, age 36, forced his way into the home with a handgun and allegedly threatened the homeowner and his wife, who uses a wheelchair, while demanding money. The homeowner said he gave the intruder cash from his wallet before being ordered to go downstairs.

Fearing for his life, the homeowner went downstairs first and used the opportunity to retrieve a shotgun hidden in another room. The homeowner returned upstairs and shot the intruder, who had dropped the cash. He ordered the would-be robber to remain still while his wife called 911 immediately. Genesee County Sheriff’s deputies and New York State police arrived to take the intruder into custody. He was treated at the scene, then taken to a hospital and had charges pending against him. An elderly man surprised some would-be robbers one Monday evening. Upon hearing a noise, the homeowner opened his door to investigate, at which point he found three men using a crowbar to break inside his home. After he opened the door, one of the men raised his crowbar to smash the glass, at which point the 78-year-old, in fear for his life, shot him. The man limped away from the scene, while the other two made their escape in a van. (chicago.cbslocal.com, Chicago, Ill., 4/9/2019)

John Marker of North Toledo, Ohio, was returning home from work when two men, one bearing a knife, confronted him as he parked his car. Marker, holder of a handgun identification card, thwarted the apparent robbery attempt by snatching a handgun fro a garage shelf and firing a round at the would-be bandits. They fled, but one man was later identified after seeking treatment at an area hospital. (The Blade, Toledo, Ohio)
