Home security systems do a good job of alerting you to intruders, but they do little to protect you. So an Albuquerque, N.M., homeowner protected himself and his girlfriend, using a gun to stop a man who broke into the home through the garage. (Albuquerque Journal, Albuquerque, N.M., 10/5/18)

An intruder breaking into a Caribou, Maine, home may have been under the influence of hallucinogens when he attempted his crime. According to Caribou police, a call came in around 3:30 a.m. from a homeowner who was holding at gunpoint the man who broke into his garage in an attempt to gain access to his house. The would-be burglar was charged with criminal trespass, but was quickly bailed. (News Center Maine, Caribou, Maine, 12/05/2018)
