A woman in Philadelphia, Penn., thwarted a robbery attempt when an intruder forced his way into her home in the early morning hours of Feb. 21, 2021.

The incident occurred just before 3 a.m. that Sunday when a man broke into the home. Two women were inside the house at the time and became aware of the forced intrusion. The intruder was then confronted by one of the women, who was armed with a gun.

The woman shot the intruder once in the thigh. The man was taken to Temple University Hospital for his injury and was last listed as being in critical condition. Police said that the gun used by the woman was legally registered, and they are not filing any charges against her. Both of the two woman inside the residence were uninjured in the break-in. Joseph Hodson, 73, was reading a newspaper in his rocking chair when a young robber entered his Indianapolis, Ind., home. The intruder ripped Hodson’s phone from the wall and began to ransack the house.
