A resident of a Salem, Ore., home defended himself and his family members when a suspected home intruder allegedly tried to force his way in on Jan. 2, 2022.

The incident occurred sometime shortly before 7 p.m. that Sunday evening, when a stranger came up to the home and began to force his way inside. The 62-year-old resident was home at the time, along with his daughter and two grandchildren, and they called police to report the in-progress home invasion. At some point while the intruder was making his way inside, the resident armed himself with a firearm and confronted the intruder.

The resident then shot the man several times, mortally wounding him. When police arrived to the home, the found the 42-year-old suspected home invader dead where he collapsed. Neither the resident, his daughter, nor the two grandchildren were harmed during the incident. (koin.com, Portland, Ore., 01/03/2022)
