Mothers usually protect their children, but the tables were turned in Idaho when an adult daughter saved her mother from an assailant. Law enforcement officers were dispatched after a call came in about a disturbance in the neighborhood. As the police were responding, they were advised there had been a shooting at the house in question. They arrived to find civilians administering first aid to a 39-year-old man, who was shot by a 41-year-old woman. Emergency medical services personnel continued treatment, but to no avail. The armed citizen told officers that she fired because the man was attacking her 70-year-old mother. Witnesses and evidence supported the claim. After ice and snow knocked out his power, the last thing a Pennsylvania homeowner was expecting was that his door would be bowled in by a boulder. That's exactly what happened when a burglar broke in around 2 a.m., at which point the homeowner, a mere eight feet away, shot him in the leg. The intruder was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. (WPXI, Slippery Rock, Pa., 11/19/18)

Having fallen asleep watching television in his Santa Paula, Calif., hoe, Robert Moore was awakened by a pair of housebreakers glowering over him. One man stabbed Moore twice in the abdomen, but the homeowner managed to call for his wife to summon the police and then retrieved a handgun from a bedroom nightstand. When he aw one burglar approaching, blade ready, he fired one shot that dropped the man. His partner had already fled the scene. (The Star Free-Press, Ventura, Calif.)
