Armed Citizen® Today

An convenience store clerk thwarted an armed robbery of a business in Round Lake Beach, Ill., with a firearm when two robbers held employees at gunpoint on Dec. 7, 2020.

The incident began around 10:45 p.m. that Monday night when a teen and young woman entered the food and liquor store and announced a holdup. One of the two robbers pulled out a gun and ordered the employees to get behind the counter. One of the employees was able to access a gun and fired several rounds at the two would-be robbers.

The armed employee's shots hit and wounded both robbers in the process. After the employee opened fire, the robbers fled the store and jumped into a getaway car just outside with two others in it. The car then sped off from the scene. Police from a neighboring department caught up with the getaway car on a dead-end road nearby, and the driver and passenger jumped out to flee on foot. Police found the two wounded robbers inside the car and they were taken to a local medical center for treatment.

The teen robber was released from the hospital and charged with armed robbery, while his female counterpart was still in the hospital Tuesday morning. Police dispatched a K-9 unit to the area in an attempt to find the getaway driver and passenger the fled the vehicle. (chicagotribune.com, Chicago, Ill., 12/08/2020)
