retired officer carrying a concealed firearm came to the rescue in what might have been a deadly robbery. In Coatesville, Pa., the retired police officer was waiting to pick up a friend outside of a nearby convenience store. A man in his early 30s entered the store and allegedly pointed a firearm at multiple employees, threatening to shoot them. The apparent armed robber demanded money, and retrieved it from the cash register. The former officer saw what he believed was an attempted robbery in progress and entered the store, shooting at the suspect several times. The suspect has been charged on multiple counts. “We got lucky,” said Tom Hogan, Chester County District Attorney. “If not for this retired officer being in the right place at the right time, we certainly would have had a robbery, and might have seen a double murder. Instead, this defendant now will face justice.” (dailylocal.com, Coatesville, Pa., 5/30/19)

A woman fought off an attacker one Wednesday outside of Milwaukee Police headquarters. A 59-year-old man attacked the woman after arguing that she should not have a handicapped parking placard in her vehicle. The woman warned him not to approach her, prompting him to turn and fetch a steering-wheel lock to use as a club, which he swung at her with one hand. At this point, the young woman retrieved a gun from her purse and fired on the man, striking him in the leg. When questioned afterward, the perpetrator admitted he was wrong in confronting the woman, and that he himself believed she shot him in self-defense. (WISN.comMilwaukee, Wis., 5/31/19)
