Armed Citizen® Today

A 49-year-old man is dead after attempting to force his way into the vehicle driven by an armed woman in the parking lot of a Food Lion grocery store in Raleigh, N.C.

According to police reports, just after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, video surveillance footage clearly showed the man as the aggressor in a road-rage incident. The man followed the woman into the parking lot, got out of his car, approached the woman's vehicle and attempted to pry her door open before being shot.

The man was taken to a local hospital and succumbed to his wounds. Wake County District Attorney Lorrin Freeman clarified that the woman fired in self-defense, had no prior criminal history and legally owned her firearm.

"We were fortunate to have access to various video. Also, there were witnesses in the area that were able to give a pretty clear picture as to what happened here," Freeman told ABC11 News. "He followed the other individual into the parking lot and upon getting out of his carapproaching her car and attempting to get into her carshe, acting in self-defense, shot and killed him."
