A resident of a Tulsa, Okla., apartment defended himself and his girlfriend when her ex-boyfriend allegedly broke into the residence on Feb. 3, 2022.

Sometime around 2 a.m. that early Thursday morning, the 21-year-old ex went to the apartment and kicked the door in. Once inside, he confronted his ex-girlfriend, which attracted the attention of her current boyfriend. During the confrontation, the situation escalated when the intruding ex, who was armed, went after the boyfriend.

In response to the soured and dangerous situation, the boyfriend produced a firearm and shot the ex, mortally wounding him in the process. When authorities arrived, they found the ex-boyfriend deceased from his wounds. As it turned out, the intruder had an active 100-yard woman's protective order against him that a judge had granted to the ex-girlfriend not long before the incident occurred. The current boyfriend was questioned by police and released. (tulsaworld.com, Yulsa, Okla., 03/13/2022)

An inmate who had escaped from a correctional facility near Birmingham, Ala., was captured for police by resident Gordon Rickles. While watching a television report of the escape, 47-year-old Rickles heard his dog barking outside. Noticing his dog was holding at bay a suspicious man armed with a large stick, Rickles grabbed a carbine and, with other armed neighbors, held the escape for police.
