A 33-year-old Alabama man is dead after confronting an armed homeowner early in the morning on March 11, 2024.

Police say the man broke into the house and knew at least one of the residents. Once inside the home, the intruder got into a physical altercation with the residents. One of the homeowners was armed and fired shots at the man, killing him in the process.

Officials from the local district attorney's office say no charges will be filed against the homeowner. (AL.com; McCalla, Ala.; 3/11/24)

Gary Martins was napping in his Van Nuys, Calif., home when he was startled by a noise. Suspecting a burglar, he armed himself with a pistol and went into his living room, where the intruder lunged at him. Martins fatally shot him. (The Daily News; Van Nuys, Calif.)
