Liberty Ammunition’s Silverado rifle cartridges operate under much the same principle as the company’s Civil Defense handgun line—light projectiles propelled to high velocities for maximum energy delivery and controlled penetration. A lead-free, monolithic 55-gr., .223 Rem. load with a deep-cavity hollow-point tip, the Silverado’s copper bullet is designed to fragment into up to nine pieces upon impact. Attaining an average velocity of 3000 f.p.s., the Silverado round produces approximately 1,100 ft.-lbs. of energy, and while it is being marketed by Liberty Ammunition as a hunting round, it would serve equally well in a defensive role. As would be expected from a lightweight .223 projectile, recoil and muzzle rise are quite minimal. Although slightly longer than some other .223 Rem. cartridges, the Liberty Ammunition Silverado did not experience any issues in a variety of on-hand magazines.
