Vietnam Combat | Firefights And Writing History

In May 1968, 1st/Lt. Robin Bartlett, originally ordered to the 101st Airborne, was reassigned to the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile), a helicopter combat assault unit. Months after the Tet Offensive began, Bartlett found himself as a platoon leader commanding 30 men during air assaults at the height of the Vietnam War.

The cover of the book illustrates a platoon leader’s view of a helicopter combat assault during the war, a view Bartlett would experience more than 60 times.

In this firsthand account of Vietnam combat, Bartlett provides vivid details of life in the Airmobile Cavalry and outlines some of the notable elements of the fighting conducted by this unit, which carried lighter packs and more ammunition while deploying into hot landing zones under fire.
