Springfield Armory was one of the first companies to jump into the “micro nine” market with its Hellcat, a subcompact 9 mm Luger pistol that still contained a double-stack magazine holding 11 rounds. Since its 2019 introduction, multiple versions of the Hellcat have been offered, tailored to the specific tastes and needs of the end user. New for 2023, Springfield is offering the Hellcat Pro with a threaded barrel in a desert flat dark earth finish.

The Hellcat Pro OSP Threaded in desert flat dark earth (FDE) has the basic specifications of Springfield’s upscaled Hellcat Pro. It is of a compact size, approximately half an inch longer, three-quarters of an inch taller and 3 ozs. heavier than the standard Hellcat. This minimal gain in dimensions offers four extra rounds of magazine capacity, a longer sight radius and more recoil control, in a package that maintains a narrow 1"-grip width and can still be easily carried concealed.

It has all of the standard Hellcat features, including a hammer-forged barrel, tritium front sight, non-proprietary Picatinny accessory rail, bilateral controls and reversible magazine release. Since its introduction, all Hellcats have had Springfield’s “Optical Sight Pistol” (OSP) system, which in the case of the Hellcat, allows the direct mounting of electronic sights with a Shield RMSc footprint.

This latest version of the Hellcat Pro combines two features that Springfield has not previously offered together. In addition to the FDE finish on the frame and slide, the pistol’s barrel is extended 0.7" longer than a standard Hellcat Pro and threaded 1/2x28 TPI to attach suppressors and other muzzle devices and is supplied with a thread protector. The resulting handgun has an overall length of 7.2" and weighs 22 ozs. It is supplied with both a 15-round magazine and a 17-round magazine, with a color-matched extended baseplate.
