In April 2018 the United States Marine Corps selected the Leupold Mark 4 MR/T riflescope to top its Designated Marksman Rifles (DMRs). The combination of the HK416-based M27 Infantry Automatic Rifle (IAR) with Leupold TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/Ts riflescope is now called the M38.

"Our entire team prides itself on building optics that deliver the elite performance and unquestioned reliability that the U.S. armed forces require, and we were ecstatic to learn that the Marine Corps selected the TS-30A2 Mark 4 MR/T," said Bruce Pettet, President and Chief Executive Officer for Leupold & Stevens, Inc.

During the 2018 NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits in Dallas, Texas, Leupold offered a limited quantity of the riflescopes for sale to attending NRA members. Also during the show, in a unexpected gesture, the Oregon-based optics maker presented NRA Publications Executive Director Doug Hamlin—a Marine—with his own Mark 4 riflescope.

"We were honored to be able to present that very same optic to Doug Hamlin—a  former Marine and dedicated defender of the Second Amendment—when he visited the Leupold booth in Dallas," said Pettet.

Hamlin said it was a tremendous honor to be recognized by Leupold during the Annual Meetings. “Like the USMC, Leupold epitomizes the best in history and tradition in the manufacturing of American-made military optics and range finding technology," he said.
