One Friday morning, a clerk was opening up a pawnshop for the day when two men, one carrying a handgun, came into the store. The armed intruder pointed the gun at the clerk and ordered him to get on the ground while the other man walked along the glass cases with a hammer. When the armed man looked away briefly to close the shop door, the clerk ran to a storage room and retrieved his own gun. The armed intruder followed the clerk into the storage room, where the clerk shot him. A scuffle ensued in which the clerk was able to free himself and the burglar succumbed to his injuries. The second man ran from the store and is still on the loose. (The Salt Lake Tribune, Bountiful, UT, 5/5/18)

May 1970
One robber held a .22 pistol on service station attendant Buddy Richards of Columbia, S.C., while his partner smashed the station’s cash register with a pickaxe. The two then left the station, but Richards pulled a revolver and ordered them to halt. He made them lie down on the pavement outside the station and flagged a passing police cruiser.
