The folding leaf rear sight on pre-580-series Ruger Ranch rifles is not particularly rugged or quickly adjustable. An alternative that addresses both issues is Accuracy Systems’ all-steel Milled Rear Sight adapted from a design for the M1 carbine. A knurled knob adjusts windage, and detents on the elevation aperture ramp allow for quick changes by hand—although the shooter will need to correlate the sight’s existing engraved graduations with actual loads and engagement ranges. The sight easily attaches to the factory dovetail with the original mounting screw, but fits only pre-580 serial-number-prefix Ruger Mini 14 and Mini Thirty Ranch models. Price: $80.
