As with the rifle itself, my scope search had to meet certain requirements in terms of features, capabilities and value. It needed to have enough power to support the goal of accurate, extended-range shooting, and it needed to possess dimensions and characteristics appropriate for a hunting optic intended for hard field use. Finally, despite the demands, it needed to be affordable and offer real bang for the buck. I think I found the right combination in Nikon’s Monarch 3 4-16X 42 mm, with a first-focal-plane reticle.
