One of two men charged with murder after a friend of theirs was killed by an armed citizen during a robbery should have been in prison at the time of the alleged murder/robbery. The criminal was free on bond and awaiting a sentencing of up to five years for a previous assault. Instead of showing up at his February sentencing, he skipped out, and he and some friends allegedly went on a spree of home invasions. One turned deadly for his cohort after a homeowner shot him. The two surviving accomplices face murder charges because someone was killed during a felony. (The Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, OH, 4/8/16)

Local police are looking for two Winston-Salem, N.C., men who fired on store employees during a botched robbery attempt. The culprits, both of whom were armed, entered a convenience store and demanded money from the clerk. One of the gunmen then fired at a second employee, but did not hit him, which caused the clerk at the register to draw a firearm and point it at the robbers. Faced with an armed victim, the criminals fled from the business on foot, and are now being sought by the authorities. (Winston-Salem Journal, Winston-Salem, NC, 1/28/16)

Two youths quickly learned the error of their ways when they tried to rob Mrs. Eva Hill’s St. Louis, Mo., cleaning store. The 60-year-old grabbed a shotgun from one of the robbers and began clubbing both men with it as she chased them out of the store and down the street. (The Sedalia Democrat, Sedalia, MO)
