Maternal love knows no bounds, as a defensive shooting in Oregon shows. A mother and her two children returned home one weekend and stumbled upon a stranger in her 10-year-old daughter’s bedroom. The woman drew her gun and fired one shot, killing the intruder. Portland police investigated and said that the man apparently entered the home by climbing in through a back window. The mother and her children had only recently moved into the home, and neighbors said some squatters had been there off and one while the house was vacant. (KOIN.com, Portland, OR, 6/26/16)

The Armed Citizen® Extra
Late one night, a 28-year-old man was waiting to meet a friend in a parking lot when three men approached him. One of the men displayed a handgun, and a struggle ensued between the man and one of the assailants. The man, who had a concealed-carry permit, pulled out his gun and shot one of the three assailants in the neck while the other two fled. The assailant was later arrested and faces felony charges. Two men entered Mrs. Sybil Turner’s grocery store in Detroit, Mich., announced a holdup, then began emptying the cash register. When one of the robbers fired at Mrs. Turner and missed, and the other said, “I’ll get her,” she pulled a gun from under the counter and wounded one robber critically. The other fled. Review: Steiner Predator: 4S 4-16X 44 mm

The benefit of a lightweight rifle is lost the moment you top it with a clunky, overweight optic, particularly a lengthy one. To that end, we are starting to see an emphasis on riflescopes that are less cumbersome when mounted, such as Steiner’s Predator 4S.
