The Ruger AC556 is the select-fire version of the the Mini-14 series of rifles that, had Bill Ruger introduced just a year or two earlier, might have been the firearm of choice during the Vietnam War rather than the AR-15 and M16. And although an American military contract always eluded Ruger, the AC556 found some traction with law enforcement and foreign militaries. Watch this "I Have This Old Gun" segment from a recent episode of American Rifleman TV to learn the history of the AC556.
