At the SHOT Show Media Day at the range, I had the opportunity to fire an unusual new 12-gauge shotgun developed by the Standard Manufacturing Company. The DP-12 is a pump-action bullpup style shotgun that has a pair of side-by-side barrels and two seven-round magazine tubes which allow the gun to hold a total of 16 shells when fully loaded. It has a single trigger that fires the barrels one at a time, first the right and then the left. Cycling the slide clears and reloads both chambers. Spent shells eject downwards. Machined from a 7075 aluminum billet and fitted with polymer furniture, this shotgun features a  full-length Picatinny sight rail, witness holes in the magazines to keep count of the shells inside, and removable threaded chokes. The DP-12 ran reliably on the shooting range with a level of felt recoil that was stout, but manageable, like other combat shotguns. It will be distributed exclusively through CheaperThanDirt.com with a suggested retail of $1,395.
