Would-be thieves apparently don’t like even the threat of being shot. When a North Carolinian caught a man attempting to break into a trailer on his property, the resident grabbed his gun and told the suspect to stop what he was doing. It worked. “There was no chance to steal anything,” Mint Hill Police Lt. John Rowell said afterward. Thus, authorities are classifying the incident as an attempted burglary. The 23-year-old suspect, who lived in the neighborhood, was charged with misdemeanor probation violation and felony breaking or entering of a motor vehicle, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office website. A man and a woman were walking together in a park in St. Paul, Minn., when they were accosted by a robber armed with a gun. When the thief told them to, “Empty your pockets,” the man, who has a permit to carry a firearm, drew his concealed handgun instead and fired it at the suspect. The male victim then took off his shirt and used it to apply pressure to the resulting wounds, but the robber was pronounced dead a short time later. The authorities deemed the victim’s defensive use of a handgun as “legally justified.” The suspect is also believed to have participated in a robbery at a bus stop earlier in the day. A masked, gun-wielding bandit entered a Taunton, Mass., pharmacy, shoved a female clerk to the floor and demanded money and drugs. Pharmacist Thomas Hall reacted by drawing his revolver chambered in .38 Spl. from under the counter, firing and wounding the gunman. The culprit was treated at a nearby hospital and taken into police custody. (The Sun Chronicle, Attleboro, MA)
