A legally armed citizen took action to stop a shooting at a house party in Harvey, Ill., possibly saving the lives of multiple people after two gunmen opened fire on partygoers.
At 8 p.m. on Saturday, August 2, the party was underway when the two armed men began shooting. Five guests were injured in the opening volley, including a young boy. One of the partygoers, who possessed an Illinois concealed carry license and was armed, returned fire, killing one of the suspects and injuring the other. When officers and emergency medical personnel arrived on scene later, they transported the injured suspect and five wounded victims to area hospitals, where they were all listed in stable condition. Joseph Bausone, manager of a Dallas, Texas, packaged goods store, was approached by a man who ordered a bottle of whiskey. As Bausone turned to fill the order, the intruder drew a pistol and demanded that the shopkeeper open the register. At that moment, a passerby looked into the store and saw the holdup in progress.
The thug fired one shot at Bausone, who dove under the counter and came up with his own gun and got off four quick shots. The would-be bandit staggered out of the store and fell dead. (Dallas Times Herald, Dallas, Texas)
