A resident of Chinatown in Chicago, Ill., used his concealed-carry pistol in self-defense when an intruder allegedly attacked him as he returned home on Monday, Oct. 3, 2022.

Sometime around 6 p.m. that afternoon, the resident was just getting home when he noticed that his garage door was open, and there was a bicycle left standing against the wall. When the resident went to investigate the garage, a 30-year-old man came running out and charged at the resident. In response the the sudden ambush, the resident took a step backwards, drew his concealed pistol and fired a single round into the intruder.

When police arrived, the discovered the wounded would-be robber, along with the resident's PlayStation gaming console, Yeezy shoes and Apple iPad, all of which had been gathered by the robber and brought to the garage. Authorities were able to determine that the intruder was able to get into the home through an unlocked second-story window. The stricken burglar was taken to a local hospital for treatment and was charged with a felony for the incident. Police also indicated that the wounded robber had an extensive criminal history spanning back a decade.  (cwbchicago.com, Chicago, Ill., 10/05/2022)

It took a beating and a robbery in which he lost $26,000 to convince Cleveland, Ohio, homeowner Edward Morak to get a gun for protection. It came in handy when three men tried to smash open the 65-year-old Morak's front door with a shovel. Morak went upstairs to get his gun and returning, opened fire. A wounded suspect was charged with attempted aggravated burglary, and a police prosecutor said that no charges would be filed against Morak. (The Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio)
