Armed Citizen® Today

An armed citizen in Elk City, Okla., defended himself when two armed robbers forced their way into his bedroom on the night of Nov. 20, 2020.

The resident was in his bedroom that night when two intruders made it into the room. One of the robbers pulled out a gun and a struggle ensued between the resident and the armed robber. In the process, the resident managed to shoot both robbers. One of the robbers died of his wounds in the bedroom, while the other fled the scene and ended up at a local hospital.

The wounded robber was treated and is now in jail. Other residents in the neighborhood woke up to find numerous police cars outside and the street blocked off. The armed robbery raised anxieties of several of the neighboring residents concerned with their safety, with one resident from the area commenting that "It does make you want to step up your guard a little bit more." Police are still investigating the incident. (news9.com, Oklahoma City, Okla., 11/23/2020)

From the Armed Citizen® Archives February 1978

Two youths entered John Loeffler’s South Lake Tahoe, Calif., drugstore, brandished a pistol and demanded drugs and cash. Loeffler filled a pillowcase with prescription narcotics. Then as he handed it to the armed member of the pair, he grabbed the bandit’s gun.

Loeffler and the robber fought until Loeffler was able to get his own gun and shoot one of his assailants in the leg. He then held both the would-be crooks until the police arrived and took them into custody. (The Daily Tribune, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.)

The benefit of a lightweight rifle is lost the moment you top it with a clunky, overweight optic, particularly a lengthy one. To that end, we are starting to see an emphasis on riflescopes that are less cumbersome when mounted, such as Steiner’s Predator 4S.
