Armed Citizen® Today

An overnight break-in attempt in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., ended badly for a suspect after he encountered an armed homeowner.

Police responded to reports of a shooting at about 3 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, and found a home-invasion suspect with a non-life-threatening injury. An investigation revealed that the suspected burglar had been caught by the homeowner after entering the home. The intruder allegedly "refused to leave," prompting the homeowner to open fire.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment. (7 News Miami; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 2/1/25)

George Crawford, a Stockton, Calif., market owner, deflected a bandit's pistol by striking his arm, then shot the gunman dead with a revolver carried underneath his grocer's apron.

Crawford, who is never without his gun when in the store, has thwarted three previous robberies. In 1953, he wounded one holdup man, killed another in 1956 and sent a third fleeing in another robbery attempt the same year. (Associated Press)
