Beaumont, Texas, police officers responded to a burglary in progress in the middle of the night on Friday, May 19, 2023, arriving to find the burglar in a pool of his own blood on the floor of the homeowner's bathroom.

The 43-year-old suspect attempted to break into the house around midnight, prompting the homeowner to call the police. While officers were on the way to the residence, the intruder forced his way inside the house and encountered an armed resident. The resident fired at the intruder, wounding him in the process. Police arrived and applied a tourniquet to the suspect's wound, stopping the bleeding and saving his life.

The homeowner will face no charges for defending his life and property. "Even though they are the ones who shot the suspect, they are still the victim," Beaumont Police Spokesperson Haley Morrow said. "The suspect is the one who broke the law and committed a crime and, as a result, he was shot." (12 News Now, Beaumont, Texas, 5/19/23)
