One Texas case illustrates the value of a handgun when it comes to personal protection, even if the gun isn’t fired. A woman and her daughter were home one day when a shovel-wielding man kicked in the front door. She grabbed her gun, aimed and said, “If you take one more step, I’ll kill you.” The intruder apparently thought she meant business, because he turned and ran. The woman’s daughter, meanwhile, had called 9-1-1. The police quickly arrested the man, charging him with burglary. (kwtx.com, Waco, TX, 4/27/18)

Upon arriving home after working a nightshift, a man was brutally attacked with a hammer. The victim was struck multiple times before he was able to run to the kitchen, where he kept his handgun. Before the aggressor could further harm the man, the homeowner raised his gun, causing his aggressor to flee. The victim was transported to a hospital and treated for his wounds, and police later arrested the attacker, charging him with attempted homicide. (The Patriot News, Carlisle, PA, 6/20/18)
