Armed Citizen® Today

A Hamilton County prosecutor said that a store owner in Cincinnati, Ohio, will not face charges after an investigation of a shooting where the owner defended himself from an armed robber inside his store on Nov. 19, 2020.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. that Thursday afternoon when a man walked into the store armed with a handgun. The man, as it turned out, had tried to rob the store two other times prior. The first was on Aug. 8, 2020, when he walked into the store and brandished his pistol at the store owner and demanded money, to which the owner refused. The robber responded, "I'll be back."

The second time was on Nov. 14, 2020, when the robber entered the store, walked behind the counter and attempted to open the register. The robber then pushed the owner against the wall and ordered him to open the register or he would kill the owner. The robber took $400 from the register and then fled the scene on that occasion.

During the incident on Nov. 19, 2020, the owner recognized the robber from the past two incidents walking back to the store, and attempted to lock the front door. The robber managed to force his way in before the doors could be locked. The armed robber then forced the owner into a corner and began to approach him. It was then that the store owner produced his own handgun and fired at the robber.

The robber was hit by the the shots and fled the scene on foot, only to collapse from his injuries a short time later. The robber, a 19-year-old, was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he died of his wounds. Police investigation of the incident revealed that the armed robbery was the third time it happened by the same individual, and that the store owner acted in self defense.
