Dogs are known for loyalty to their owners, especially if they sense danger. But dog owners return that loyalty when their pets are under attack. A man was walking his Mastiff-type dog on a leash in a neighborhood one morning when they encountered two dogs that had escaped from a backyard. One of them, a pit bull, attacked the man’s dog. The man first tried physically fighting off the pit bull but was unsuccessful. As a licensed concealed-carry holder, the man was carrying his pistol, and was ultimately left with no choice but to shoot and kill the attacking pit bull. The man was not injured and his dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment. The owner of the pit bull was charged with harboring a vicious dog and two counts of owning unlicensed dogs.
