A 60-year-old man in Victorville, Calif., defended himself and stopped a rampaging suspect when he fired several shots at his 21-year-old assailant on June 11, 2023.

That evening, the 21-year-old suspect allegedly chased down a victim with a hammer at the Park View Apartments in Victorville. After striking the first victim, the suspect turned his attention to a 49-year-old woman who attempted to flee the scene. The attacker then used a knife and stabbed the woman multiple times.

The assailant then ran to an adjacent apartment, broke in and attacked the 60-year-old resident inside with his knife. The resident was armed, though, and fired multiple rounds, striking and killing the 21-year-old home invader. The 60-year-old resident was taken to the hospital with stab wounds, and his condition is unknown. (Daily Press; Victorville, Calif.; 6/11/23)

Clifton Williams, a Buffalo, N.Y., armed security guard, returned to his home one evening to find a burglary in progress. Entering the premises, Williams confronted a man who was carrying off his TV set. Instead of surrendering, the thief dropped the set and lunged at Williams, who shot his attacker once, fatally.
