Youths in a Richland County, S.C., apartment complex were forced to defend themselves when an intruder allegedly broke into the residence on Feb. 6, 2022.

Sometime before 5 p.m. that Sunday afternoon, the two youths were at the apartment alone when they spotted a man trying to break in. The two youngsters hid themselves, and the intruder forced his way in. However, once inside, the intruding man produced a firearm and opened fire on the two. As the intruder shot up the apartment in the direction the youths were hiding in, one of them managed to retrieve a firearm from inside the apartment and returned fire.

One of the shots connected with the intruder's upper body, subduing him. Police were then called to the scene, where they found the armed intruder laying on the apartment floor, dead from his wound, and obvious evidence of his gunfire on the walls. Given the circumstances of the situation, authorities ruled the shooting by the juvenile as justifiable. Luckily for the two youths, neither was struck by the intruder's fire. A man armed with a toy gun and a can of mace entered Mike Stratton's Eugene, Ore., pharmacy and demanded narcotic pain killers. Telling the robber he had just been hired and pretending not to be familiar with the drugs, Stratton bided his time until he could get his revolver, then ordered the intruder to lie on the floor while a clerk telephoned police. Police said Stratton handled the situation well. (The Register-Guard, Eugene, Ore.)
