Once upon a time, a set of spent shell casings sufficed as "adequate" hearing protection. We've come a long way since then. Pyramex has released a new set of shooting muffs through its Venture Gear brand, called the Amp BT Electronic Bluetooth Hearing Protector. The Amp BT utilizes rapid noise-suppression technology (which activates after 85 dB) to compress harmful sounds to safe levels, while simultaneously allowing surrounding noises to be heard with the help of four microphones positioned around the unit. An ambient noise control knob can also amplify softer noises, such as whispered conversation, with a simple twist up or down.

Above and beyond this already technologically advanced set of features, the Amp BT goes a step further by offering Bluetooth connectivity. Shooters can wirelessly connect a smartphone or other bluetooth device to their muffs, enabling them to listen to music or talk on the phone, while still taking full advantage of the rapid noise suppression technology. For those without bluetooth devices, a 3.5 mm auxiliary input jack is also included, for a wired connection.

Even in passive mode, without the bells and whistles engaged, the Amp BT still delivers sound dampening, with a noise reduction rating of 26 dB. Powered by two AAA batteries (included), the Amp BT is expected to retail for $119.99. For more information, please visit pyramexsafety.com.
