Ruger has announced an addition to its rifle lineup. Based on the Hawkeye Standard, the new configuration will be chambered in a number of short- and long-action calibers. Called the Hawkeye Hunter, this rifle will feature a cold hammer-forged, satin stainless-steel, factory-threaded barrel, which pairs well with its traditional American-walnut stock. A stretch of 20-m.o.a. picatinny rail sits atop its stainless action, making the mounting of optics quick and easy. Underneath, a Mauser-style claw extractor ejects spent shells, while a three-position safety allows one to lock the bolt, or manipulate it with the safety engaged. When the safety is disengaged, a factory-installed Ruger LC6 trigger can be utilized to loose shots.

The stock comes standard with sling swivel studs, a recoil pad, and houses a hinged, solid-steel floorplate for easy unloading. An added bonus, the floorplate latch rides flush with the trigger guard, to avoid any inadvertent unloading.

The Hawkeye Hunter is initially being offered in four calibers: 6.5 mm Creedmoor; .308 Win.; .30-06 Sprg.; and .300 Win.-Mag. The last of these features a removable Ruger radial-port muzzle brake to significantly reduce felt recoil. For more information on this hunting-minded long gun, please visit ruger.com.
