Concealed carry revolvers come in two basic flavors. Some have a conventional exposed hammer for double-action/single-action fire and others are of a “hammerless” design, where a hammer is concealed within a frame for ultimate concealability and a snag-free draw. While Taurus makes many of the latter, the company is re-introducing the hammerless concealed carry revolver to its lineup with the new-for-2025 Taurus 650.

Taurus produced the original 650 CIA from 2001 to 2017. The new 650 follows the lines of the original. They are five-shot revolvers with a swing-out cylinder chambered in .357 Magnum. According to Taurus, the pistol’s size is compatible with numerous holsters and speedloaders already on the market. Sights are a U-notch in the top strap of the frame and a serrated front post that is removable. With a concealed hammer, the 650 can only be fired in double-action mode, and safety is provided by a transfer bar system.

The Taurus 650 is available in four formats. It can be had with a 2” or 3” barrel, and made of either carbon steel with a matte black finish or made of stainless steel which is given a matte natural finish. The grips are made of textured rubber. The 2” barreled version weighs 22 ozs. with the 3” model just over an ounce more.
