FN America 509 MRD

Enthusiasts who purchase a new FN509 Tactical, FN509 Standard or FN509 MRD pistol by Sept. 30 qualify to receive up to $120, $75 or $75 in FN store eCredit, respectively, redeemable at FNeStore.com. And the outlet’s wide selection of firearm-specific accessories and other company gear allows owners to select items for their gun or other merchandise from FN America. The promotion launched July 15.

FN America submitted the FN509 in the U.S. Army’s Modular Handgun System (MHS) competition. “Even though FN didn’t win the big contract,” Mark Keefe wrote for the American Rifleman in 2018, “the shooting public notched a win with the availability of the 509 pistol, ably reviewed by American Rifleman’s Kelly Young. “Today, it’s available in a variety of different configurations, from optics-ready, compact for carry, duty, tactical, home-defense and other chores. All pack the performance, ergonomics and reliability to meet military demands.

Creating a handgun that fulfilled all the Army’s stringent requirements was no easy task, either. “FN didn’t have an off-the-shelf solution to the MHS’s design criteria, however, so the company’s engineers set themselves to the task of creating a new gun, using the existing architecture of the FNS Compact as a starting point,” Young wrote. “As such, it is a polymer-frame, striker-fired, recoil-operated semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9 mm Luger that feeds from a double-stack, detachable-box magazine.”

The FN509 Tactical arrived later, with a threaded barrel and raised sights for suppressor use. The FN509 MRD line features FN’s Low Profile Optics Mounting System that makes optic mounting fast and easy.

New owners of a qualifying FNs must redeem the offer by Oct. 31. The company’s Free Gear Promotion webpage has complete details and convenient links to register for the eCredit. The offer is valid only for U.S. residents and certain other restrictions apply.
