Editor’s Choice: Smith & Wesson M&P5.7

SMITH & WESSON is striking while the iron is hot with its new M&P5.7, becoming the latest in a recent spate of manufacturers to bring to market a semi-automatic pistol chambered to fire the resurgent 5.7x28 mm FN cartridge.

This newest member of the Military & Police series bears many similarities with the rest of the company’s double-stack M&P line, but its rotating TEMPO barrel and gas-powered operating system are unique to the M&P5.7, and the contours of its polymer grip frame are distinctively shaped to help accommodate the pistol’s 22-round detachable box magazines.

Available with or without bilateral thumb safeties, the soft-recoiling handgun features dovetailed three-dot sights, an optics-ready and lightening-cut slide, fully ambidextrous controls, a threaded barrel and a flat-faced trigger with a crisp, single-action break.
