An off-duty Pentagon police officer defended himself from an armed youth who attempted to rob him on the night of March 24, 2021.

The victim, a member of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, was near Oxon Run Park in Washington, D.C., around 9:20 p.m. that Wednesday night when a youth walked up and pulled a pistol on him. The 16-year-old then attempted to rob the man at gunpoint before a struggle ensued, and the off-duty officer attempted to disarm the teen. The officer then drew his pistol and shot the youthful would-be robber in the arm.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for his non-life threatening injury before being taken into custody. He is charged with assault and intent to commit armed robbery. As it turned out, the pistol used by the teen in the attempted robbery was a BB gun, which could not be discerned by the officer during the incident. (nbcwashington

A man and a woman entered a Blackwood, N.J., jewelry store and asked to see some gold rings. When owner Anthony Travia set a ring tray on the counter, the man pulled a handgun and demanded all the jewelry. Travia instead whipped out his own revolver and, in an exchange of gunfire, shot and killed the gunman. The female accomplice was held at bay until the police could arrive.
